Steve Solarz Passed Away

"... never has a small group of Americans contributing so much to this great country

With their skills and work ethics and yet ask so little in return for themselves from this country.

All they want is not for themselves but for the people they left behind
to have just a little of what they enjoy here in this country - freedom and democracy.."

- Steve Solarz

==================

Sorry to hear the news about the passing of Steven Solarz, who supported early and difficult struggles of many Taiwanese here and in Taiwan, with his zeal and eloquence. I could never forget what he said in one DC rally (allow me to paraphrase) "... never has a small group of Americans contributing so much to this great country with their skills and work ethics and yet ask so little in return for themselves from this country. All they want is not for themselves but for the people they left behind to have just a little of what they enjoy here in this country - freedom and democracy.." I remember he went on to say if all the people came to live in the United State would do what they are doing for their folks back home the world would be a better place.

Dear Friends,

We have a lot of young FAPA members, board members and officers. Some of us become active with FAPA after Steve Solarz retired. Mr. Steve Solarz did a lot of great work for human rights and democratization of Taiwan in the 70s and 80s. I think it is fair to say that without Mr. Steve Solarz , it would be hard for Taiwan to achieve today's status. He did so much for Taiwan and I am sure these great works he did will not be forgot. As a big Taiwanese organization which has worked with Mr. Steve Solarz with so many Taiwan issues in the 70s and 80s, FAPA needs to take initiative to compile the data and history (what Mr. Steve Solarz has done for Taiwan issues) available to be used to educate Taiwanese the true value of Human rights and democracy.

My up most respect for our American friend Mr. Steve Solarz. His great work has helped Taiwan moved forward a big step and we shall always remember this great friend and mentor of Taiwan.
