Orange County Taiwanese American Community Scholarship Award Application

Applicants should be US citizens (or permanent residents) and college-bound seniors in the graduating class of 2010 from high schools in Orange County, California.
Please submit the application in the mail with the following documents:
1. A biography of no more than 500 words demonstrating leadership potential and commitment to public service. It must be typed, double-spaced, with size 12 font and one-inch margins on all four sides.
2. An essay of no more than 1000 words, on the topic below:
Indicate a person who has had a significant influence on you and describe that influence.
It must be typed, double-spaced, with size 12 font and one-inch margins on all four sides.
3. One recommendation letter from one of your school teachers or counselors
4. A copy of your official high school transcript
AND please email to shinghsu@yahoo.com:
- A brief biography of no more than 250 words, to be used to introduce you at the award ceremony.
- A photo of yourself in JPEG not larger than 2 inches by 2 inches, to be included in the award ceremony program.

Deadline: Your completed application must be postmarked no later than April 16, 2010 and mailed to:

Award: A scholarship of $500.00 and a plaque for each award recipient.

The applicants will be informed of the results by May 10, 2010.

Award Ceremony:

The award ceremony will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on June 6, Sunday, 2010 at Irvine City Hall.

The objectives of Taiwanese American Community Scholarship Award are:
(1) to promote community involvement and social service,
(2) to recognize high school seniors with leadership qualities as well as a commitment to community services, and
(3) to encourage them to pursue higher education.


NUMBER OF AWARD

There are a total of eleven groups. Each of the ten core schools listed below is considered a group. Applicants from any other high schools in Orange County are categorized together as a group. In each group, there will be one scholarship award per 1 to 5 applicants, two awards per 6 to 10 applicants and three awards for more than 11 applicants.

Laguna Hills High School


OCTA (Orange County Taiwanese Association) and TACL (Taiwanese American Citizens League) are non-profit educational and social organizations.
